With Your name, my Lord, I lay down my side, and by You I raise it. If You take my soul, have mercy on it; and if You release it, protect it as You protect Your righteous servants.

46. Tawḥīd dhikr for protection from Shayṭān

Reported in Bukhārī and Muslim with virtues

Transliteration:

Reported in Muslim

A Bonus Do'a, The Comprehensive Duʿā’

Transliteration

Allāhumma innī asʾaluka mina l-khayri kullihi, ʿājilihi wa-ājilihi, mā ʿalimtu minhu wa-mā lam aʿlam, wa-aʿūdhu bika mina sh-sharri kullihi, ʿājilihi wa-ājilihi, mā ʿalimtu minhu wa-mā lam aʿlam.

Translation

O Allah, I ask You for every good: its immediate and later forms, what I know of it and what I do not know. And I seek refuge in You from every evil: its immediate and later forms, what I know of it and what I do not know.

Brief note

This is a beautiful opening from one of the most comprehensive Prophetic supplications. It gathers every form of good and protection from every form of evil, including what a person can recognize and what only Allah knows. Your translation is sound, but “immediate and later” is more precise than “present and future,” because ʿājilihi wa-ājilihi carries the sense of what comes quickly and what comes later. The full hadith continues by asking for the good the Prophet ﷺ asked for, seeking refuge from what he sought refuge from, asking for Paradise and what brings one near to it, seeking refuge from the Fire and what brings one near to it, and asking that every decree be made good

A Sunnah-Based Way to Recite Them in an Organized Manner

The Sunnah does not prescribe one fixed daily sitting in which every duʿā’ in this full collection must be recited in one exact order. A sound way is to keep the fixed Sunnah adhkār in their known times, then rotate the longer duʿā’ as general supplication in times where duʿā’ is encouraged: sujūd, before salām, after obligatory prayers, between adhān and iqāmah, the last third of the night, and quiet moments of need.

1. Morning protection set

After Fajr or before sunrise, recite:

  1. Al-Ikhlāṣ, Al-Falaq, and An-Nās — three times each.
    Use Qur’an entries 56, 57, and 58.

  2. Āyat al-Kursī — once.
    Use Qur’an entry 2.

  3. Protection from sudden harm — three times.
    Use Hadith entry 35.

  4. Asking for pardon, well-being, safety, and protection — once.
    Use Hadith entry 33.

  5. Well-being in body, hearing, and sight — three times.
    Use Hadith entry 34.

  6. Refuge from the evil of the self and Shayṭān — once.
    Use Hadith entry 16.

  7. Firmness of the heart — once or more.
Use Hadith entries 1 and 2, and Qur’an entry 8.

Then add a small rotating set from the Qur’an list, such as 5–10 duʿā’ each morning

2. After each obligatory prayer

After the regular post-prayer adhkār, recite:

  • Hadith entry 6: help in remembrance, gratitude, and worship.

  • Hadith entry 1 or 2: firmness and obedience of the heart.

  • Qur’an entry 8: asking Allah not to let the heart deviate.

This keeps the heart connected after every prayer without making the whole list burdensome.

3. Inside ṣalāh, before salām

In the final tashahhud before salām, use the supplications taught for prayer:

  • Hadith entry 19: the duʿā’ taught to Abū Bakrؓ .

  • Hadith entry 29: protection from Hell, the grave, life and death trials, and the Dajjāl.

  • Hadith entry 30: refuge from sin and debt.

This is one of the strongest places to ask Allah for protection.

4. In sujūd of sunnah prayers or night prayer

In sujūd, rotate one duʿā’ from each group:

For īmān and steadfastness:

  • Qur’an entries 8, 10, 14, 18, 22

  • Hadith entries 1, 2, 3, 4, 11

For the heart:

  • Qur’an entries 28, 35, 51

  • Hadith entries 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 43

For anxiety and distress:

  • Qur’an entries 21, 30, 31, 45, 49, 59, 60

  • Hadith entries 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 31, 32

For healing and protection:

  • Qur’an entries 2, 56, 57, 58

  • Hadith entries 33–40, 44

5. Evening protection set

After ʿAṣr or Maghrib, repeat the core morning protections:

  1. Al-Ikhlāṣ, Al-Falaq, and An-Nās — three times each.

  2. Protection from sudden harm — three times.

  3. Pardon, well-being, safety, and protection — once.

  4. Refuge in Allah’s perfect words — once or more.

  5. Refuge from worry and grief — once or more.

  6. Firmness of the heart — once or more.

Use Qur’an entries 56–58 and Hadith entries 35, 33, 36, 21, 1, and 2

6. Before sleeping

Before sleep, follow a Sunnah-based order:

  1. Recite Āyat al-Kursī — Qur’an entry 2.

  2. Recite the last two verses of Al-Baqarah — Qur’an entry 7.

  3. Recite Al-Ikhlāṣ, Al-Falaq, and An-Nās, blow into the palms, and wipe over the body — Qur’an entries 56–58.

  4. Recite the sleep duʿā’ — Hadith entry 45.

  5. Add one short heart duʿā’, such as Hadith entry 1 or Qur’an entry 8

7. When anxiety suddenly rises

Use a short emergency set:

First:

Transliteration:
Aʿūdhu billāhi mina sh-shayṭāni r-rajīm.

Translation:
I seek refuge in Allah from the rejected Shayṭān.

Then recite:

Transliteration:
Yā Ḥayyu, yā Qayyūm, bi-raḥmatika astaghīth.

Translation:
O Ever-Living, O Self-Sustaining, by Your mercy I seek relief.

Then recite:

Transliteration:
Allāhumma raḥmataka arjū, fa-lā takilnī ilā nafsī ṭarfata ʿayn, wa-aṣliḥ lī shaʾnī kullah. Lā ilāha illā Ant.

Translation:
O Allah, I hope for Your mercy, so do not leave me to myself even for the blink of an eye. Set all my affairs right. There is no god but You.

Then repeat:

Transliteration:
Ḥasbunā llāhu wa-niʿma l-wakīl.

Translation:
Allah is enough for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.

Or:

Transliteration:
Ḥasbiya llāhu lā ilāha illā Huwa. ʿAlayhi tawakkaltu, wa-Huwa Rabbu l-ʿarshi l-ʿaẓīm.

Translation:
Allah is enough for me. There is no god but Him. Upon Him I rely, and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne.

8. Weekly full-cycle method

To recite the whole collection without turning it into a rigid ritual, rotate it through the week:

Day 1: Protection of īmān and guidance
Qur’an entries 1–15 and Hadith entries 1–10.

Day 2: Repentance, purification, and the heart
Qur’an entries 16–32 and Hadith entries 11–20.

Day 3: Anxiety, grief, distress, and tawakkul
Qur’an entries 33–49 and Hadith entries 21–32.

Day 4: Healing, protection, and well-being
Qur’an entries 50–60 and Hadith entries 33–44.

Day 5: Sunnah protection recitations
Āyat al-Kursī, the last two verses of Al-Baqarah, Al-Ikhlāṣ, Al-Falaq, An-Nās, and the morning/evening protection duʿā’.

Day 6: Heart and īmān focus
Repeat Qur’an entries 8, 14, 18, 22, 28, 35, 51, 59, 60 and Hadith entries 1, 2, 3, 6, 11, 12, 17, 18, 43.

Day 7: Anxiety, healing, and surrender
Repeat Qur’an entries 21, 30, 31, 45, 49, 57, 58, 59, 60 and Hadith entries 21–26, 31–40.

This method preserves the Sunnah adhkār in their proper times while allowing the longer collection to become a steady practice. Duʿā’, dhikr, ṣalāh, rest, good companionship, and seeking appropriate treatment all work together; if anxiety is severe or persistent, professional help should be sought alongside spiritual care.
