Thousands of blessings and thousands of greetings of peace
upon the spirit of Muhammad, peace be upon him.
May this be the daily litany of my soul and heart, morning and evening:
Upon you be blessings; upon you be peace.
Description: These lines express constant love for the Prophet ﷺ. The word wird means a regular daily devotional recitation.
If you, O morning breeze, should one day reach the Sacred Land,
then carry my greeting to the Rawḍah, where the honored Prophet rests.
Description: The poet speaks to the morning wind as if it were a messenger. This is a classical Arabic poetic image: the wind carries greetings from the lover to the beloved. Here the beloved is the Prophet ﷺ, and the place is the blessed Rawḍah in Madinah.
From his face shines the sun of morning; from his cheek shines the full moon of the night.
From his very being comes the light of guidance; from his hand comes an overflowing ocean.
Description: This is praise poetry. The Prophet ﷺ is described through images of light: sun, moon, guidance, and an ocean of generosity.
His Qur’an is our proof, superseding the religions that came before.
When its rulings came to us, the earlier scriptures became as though no longer binding.
Description: This expresses the Muslim belief that the Qur’an is the final revelation and the final criterion. The phrase “became as nothing” is poetic overstatement, meaning that earlier laws are no longer the governing law for the Muslim community.
Our hearts are wounded by the sword of separation from the Chosen One.
Blessed are the people of the city in which the dignified Prophet is.
Description: In Arabic, akbādunā literally means “our livers,” but in classical poetry the liver can symbolize deep feeling, like the heart in English. The poet longs for Madinah and envies those who live near the Prophet ﷺ.
If only I were like one who follows the Prophet of knowledge,
day and night, constantly. Grant me that through generosity.
Description: The speaker asks to be among those who truly follow the Prophet ﷺ in every part of life.
O Chosen One, O Selected One, show mercy regarding our disobedience.
Our deeds are overpowered by greed, sin, and wrongdoing.
Description: The language is devotional. The speaker admits weakness and asks for prophetic compassion and intercession. In Islamic belief, all mercy and forgiveness ultimately come from Allah.
O mercy for all worlds, you are the intercessor for sinners.
Honor us on the sorrowful day with favor, generosity, and grace.
Description: “Mercy for the worlds” is a famous title for the Prophet ﷺ. “The sorrowful day” refers to the fearful Day of Judgment. The speaker asks for help and honor on that day.
Closing salutation

O Ever-Living, O Self-Sustaining Sustainer; O Ever-Living, O Self-Sustaining Sustainer; O Ever-Living, O Self-Sustaining Sustainer.

We ask You, by the light of Your noble Face, to bring life to our hearts, our bodies, our physical forms, our souls, and our sight, through the light of knowing You and loving You forever.
Description: This is a prayer for inner life. It asks that the body, heart, soul, and sight be made alive through knowledge of Allah and love of Him.
O Allah, forgive our sins, O Great Forgiver of sins.
O Allah, cover our faults, O Concealer of faults.
O Allah, increase our provision with lawful and pure provision, O Provider, O All-Knowing.

The soul of souls and the secret of their lasting life.
And upon his family and companions; grant them peace.
Description: This is a famous style of salawāt in which the Prophet ﷺ is praised as a source of spiritual healing, light, nourishment, and life. The meaning is devotional: Allah is the true giver of healing, and the Prophet ﷺ is described as the blessed means of guidance, mercy, and cure for hearts.
6. Overall description of the entire duʿā
This Duʿā of the Morning is a devotional morning litany. It moves in a clear spiritual order:
First, it begins with Allah’s name, then with tasbīḥ and istighfār—glorifying Allah and asking forgiveness.
Second, it sends salawāt upon the Prophet ﷺ, asking Allah to bless him whenever people remember him and even when people forget.
Third, it renews the worshipper’s Muslim identity: Allah as Lord, Islam as religion, Muhammad ﷺ as Prophet and Messenger, the Qur’an as guide, the Kaʿbah as qiblah, prayer as obligation, and believers as one family.
Fourth, it honors the great early figures of the Muslim community: Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, ʿUthmān, ʿAlī, al-Ḥasan, and al-Ḥusayn, may Allah be pleased with them.
Fifth, it enters a poetic section of love and longing for the Prophet ﷺ and Madinah. The poet asks the morning breeze to carry greetings to the Rawḍah, praises the Prophet ﷺ through images of sun, moon, light, and ocean, then asks for mercy and intercession.
Sixth, it turns fully to Allah with requests for pardon, well-being, protection, spiritual life, knowledge, love, forgiveness, covering of faults, lawful provision, and mercy for one’s family.
Finally, it closes with a rich salawāt describing the Prophet ﷺ as healing for hearts, light for sight, nourishment for souls, and a source of spiritual life by Allah’s permission.
In short, the duʿā combines repentance, praise, love for the Prophet ﷺ, renewal of faith, longing for Madinah, and practical needs for the day ahead.
